Committee Reports.
Bob Hunter gave a paper recycling report. Mason City Recycling not picking up the trailer. There is a problem with the trailer - that we can't close the doors. This is because the trailer is sinking. Maybe we should put gravel where the wheels sit?
Willy Morfitt reported on glasses. He has no requests for glasses. He continues to empty the collection boxes and take them to Ames.
Jim G is working on the Peach Sales.
Pancake hours are from 7 to 11. Jim will confirm this.
The nominations committee has a new slate of officers. Jerry read the slate. President, Paul Malsom; 1st Vice-president, Charlene Jarboe; 2nd Vice-president, Charlie Lloyd; 3rd Vice-president, Vacant; Membership, Terance Beaston and Mike Miller; Secretary, Loren Heckathorne; Treasurer, John Beals; Lion Tamer, Carlene Hunter; Directors, Elijah Hansen and Jim Fenn; Tail Twisters, Sandy Richardson and Steve Jordening; Publicity, Willy Morfitt (who declined); Web Master, Jerry Radke; Social Media, Elijah Hansen, Jerry Radke and Jim Fenn.
The Nevada Lions Club held its regular Board of Directors meeting, Apr 10, 2019, in the Windsor Manor dining room. President Susan Radke called the meeting to order at 7:36 pm and acted as Chairperson, with the following members present:
John Beals Jim Fenn Loren Heckathorne Carlene Hunter Charlene Jarboe Bob Hunter Willy Morfitt Susan Radke Jerry Radke Steve Jordening Sandy Richardson Secretary Heckathorne read the Minutes from the previous Board meeting. John Beals made a motion to approve the Minutes, Second by Steve Jordening. Motion passed.
John Beals presented the Treasurer's report. Charlene Jarboe made a motion to accept the Treasurer's report, Second by Sandy Richardson. Motion passed.
Bills of account: Meals for March of $201.50. No motion is needed for this. Paper sacks to Bob Hunter of $30.48. Jerry moved we pay the bill, 2nd by Steve Jordening. Motion passed.
For old business, we continued the discussion of our scholarship funds. The account was moved to Tom Giest and Tom is doing analysis and looking at options.
Charlene reported that the high school students will apply for our scholarships the 1st or 2nd week of May.
Susan read a thank-you from Lions Clubs International Foundation.
Nevada Historical Society sent a letter about both individual and business membership. We declined Historical Society membership.
We discussed advertising for the Pancake Breakfast. Steve made a motion to do 1 advertisement two weeks out; 2nd by Jim Fenn. Motion passed.
Jim Fenn brought up the topic of new song books. Secretary Heckathorne reported that Lions International knows nothing about the song books.
Nothing further on the Peach Sales.
For new business, we learned that our web domain is good until May 2020.
Steve made a motion to close, 2nd by Carlene we adjourned the meeting at 8:07.
We had a business meeting April 24, 2019 -- before the program. Members present included: John Beals, Jim Fenn, Jim George, Loren Heckathorne, Bob Hunter, Carlene Hunter, Charlene Jarboe, Steve Jordening, Willy Morfitt, Jerry Radke, Susan Radke, Sandy Richardson.
We talked about 3 issues tonight.
1. Pancake Day moved to June 8. Advertisement for the new date in Journal. Flyers, which were printed, can be corrected by putting a label over the date.2. Vote on slate. Jerry read the Slate again. It was noted the Willy declined and there is no volunteer to take his place at this time. Leave thei position vacant for now. There were no nominations from the floor. Jerry made the motion, 2nd by Loren Heckathorne to approve the slate. Motion passed.
3. Elijah sent Susan an email about bike safety helmets. He requested $250 for Kids Safety Day. It will teach bike safety and kids can get a helmet at reduced cost. They will raffle off a bike. Bob moved that we go ahead and donate $250 for Bike Safety Day, 2nd by Jim George. Motion passed.
Suppers at Indian Creek -- This was postponed until the next Board meeting.
There was an announcement for a Mix and Mingle at Mosaic (221 S 11th St) on the 25th. The purpose of the Mix and mingle is to explain their programs for the disabled. Nobody said that they were going.
