Story County Hospital, Wednesday Evening, January 10, 2018 - Loren Heckathorne
The Nevada Lions Club held its regular Board of Directors meeting, January 10, 2018, in the Story County Hospital Conference Room. President Jerry Radke called the meeting to order at 8:07 pm and acted as Chairperson, with the following members present:

Treasurer John Beals presented the financial report and the pancake report. The net profit from the Pancake / Breakfast with Santa fundraiser was $2023. We served 405 persons, and averaged $5.67 per person. Jim Fenn made a motion to accept both reports, Second by Loren Heckathorne. Motion passed.
Bills of account: There were 3 bills: pancake mix to Charlene for $26.32, paper sacks to Jim Fenn for $30.90 and Windsor Manor for the meals in November for $77. No motion is needed for pancake mix or Windsor Manor. Bob Hunter made a motion to pay for the sacks, Second by Carlene Hunter. Motion passed.
Nobody from our Lions Club is able to attend the Mid-winter Conference this year. Jerry usually goes, but can't this year. I can't go this year and neither can anyone else at the Board meeting.
It was reported that we received the recycling paper check for $439.40, which was for 21,970 pounds of paper.
Next we made our Lions donations for this year. The donations were as follows: The Iowa Lions Foundation $350, Leader Dog, Puppy Program and Diabetes Awareness $100 each and for LCIF $50. There were questions about what some of these do. The Iowa Lions Foundation website lists 8 things: Cochlear Implants, Department for the Blind, Kidsight, Lions Eye Bank, Hearing Aid Bank, School for the Deaf, Leader Dog and Camp Courageous. There was also discussion when we would qualify for a Warren Coleman award. Willy Morfitt made a motion to make our usual donations, Seconded by Bob Hunter. Motion passed.
We discussed the Spring Pancake fundraiser next. Last year we had to move our spring pancake event into May because of a conflict. Get it on the calendar. Either have it Saturday April 14 or 21. No motion that I can tell. Later, Jim Fenn reported that the Story County run was April 22 last year and it might be April 21 this year.
Willy discussed eyeglasses. Should we do a person in St Anthony? Colo club is mostly gone and McCallsburg doesn't seem up to the task. State Center is closest Lions Club. (I called their president and they don't have a program to assist needy people to pay for eyeglasses.) The person from St Anthony went to an eye doctor in Zearing? But, he/she will fill the prescription here in Nevada? Everyone thought that Willy should use his good judgment.
John Beals did a final Kidsight report. We screened 88 and 6 were referred. We may look into doing Kidsight for Collins / Maxwell next year.
Jim Fenn brought up the Peach sale. He contacted them to look into sales aids. We should start selling around June.
Bob Hunter moved to adjourn, Second by John Beals and we adjourned at 8:53 pm.
