The Nevada Lions Club held its regular Board Meeting in the Jean Bodensteiner home on 4 March 2002. The meeting was called to order at 7:04 p.m. by President Angelo Stefani who acted as chairman, with the following members in attendance:

Lion President Angelo thanked Lion Jean for hosting the board meeting. Lion Secretary Jerry read the minutes of the 7 January 2002 board meeting. Lion Jim moved to accept the minutes, seconded by Lion Jan, and passed. Lion Jerry then read the minutes of the 13 February and 27 February board meetings. Lion Jim moved to accept the minutes, seconded by Lion Odin, and passed. Lion Jerry reported the treasurer's check book balance as $6077.28. The following bills were presented: 1) Loren Heckathorne for Mid-Winter Conference expenses = $32, 2) Jean Bodensteiner for Mid-Winter Conference expenses = $55, and 3) Jerry Radke for Mid-Winter Conference expenses = $9. Lion Lynn moved to pay the bills, seconded by Lion Paul, and passed.
For old business, Lion Jim reported that the Annual Pancake Day will be 22 March 2002 in Gates Hall with serving from 6:30 am to 7 pm. Third Vice President Paul is in charge of advertising, Second Vice President Jan is taking care of the supplies, and First Vice President Jim will get the sausage. Team leaders are needed. Lion Jim passed around a sheet for workers to sign. Lion Jean moved to keep the prices at $4 for adults and $2 for children under twelve, seconded by Lion Jan, and passed.
Lion Jerry reported that the audit team has audited last year's books and found them in order. The committee to study the criteria for awarding Jones and Coleman awards hasn't met yet. Lion President Angelo reported on the 5 February 2002 Zone Meeting attended by Lions Jerry, Jean, and Angelo. The "Coming to Your Senses" project was one focus. Lion Jim will see about setting up a screening in April with Lions Jean and Odin helping. The next Zone Meeting will be on 24 June 2002.
Several items of correspondence were introduced including "Thank You" notes from LCIF for our donation and from Jennifer Perkins for the second half of her scholarship. Nevada Chamber representatives will visit our club on 13 March 2002 to present us with our membership plaque. Lion Loren moved to pay $170 to sponsor a youth baseball team through Parks and Recreation. Lion Jean seconded the motion which passed.
The Nominating Committee is planning to meet this coming Wednesday. Lion Angelo will check with District Governor Tim Wilson to see if he is available to present the Melvin Jones Award to Lion Bob Hobson at our 10 April 2002 regular meeting. Rebecca Cordray and some high school students will be at our 13 March 2002 meeting to promote the Nevada High School play, Cinderella. This could be our program for the evening. Past District Governor Herman Kopitzke will speak on the Iowa Lions Foundation at our 24 April 2002 meeting. It was noted that Margaret Crane's meals are not very friendly to the diabetics in our club. Lion Jean will speak to her about more diabetic-friendly foods.
Lion Jim reported that a Reading Foundation group in Nevada is asking for donations. He will bring specifics to our next board meeting. The District 9x7 Convention will be 12-13 April 2002 in Humboldt. Lion Jean plans to attend. Let her know if you are interested in car pooling. We need others to attend. The Glaucomobile is scheduled for Nevada on 27 June 2002. The Youth Exchange Camp will be at Madrid again this year from 14-20 July. Donations and help are needed. The State Convention is in Waterloo from 31 May to 2 June this year. They want Lions floats. We will consider entering one. Lions John Wheelock and Jim Fenn will see if it is feasible.
Our next board meeting will be 1 April 2002 at Lion Jim Perkins home. Our next regular meeting is 13 March 2002. Libby Zaletel will present the program for our 27 March 2002 regular meeting. Lion Jim moved to adjourn, seconded by Lion Odin, and we adjourned at 8:23 pm.
