March 2018 Board of Directors Meeting

Lion Line

Windsor Manor, Wednesday Evening, March 14, 2018 - Loren Heckathorne

The Nevada Lions Club held its regular Board of Directors meeting, March 14, 2018, in the Windsor Manor dining room. President Jerry Radke called the meeting to order at 7:15 pm and acted as Chairperson, with the following members present:

Loren Heckathorne Bob Hunter Carlene Hunter
Charlene Jarboe Paul Malsom Willy Morfitt
Jerry Radke Susan Radke Mike Seaboch

Secretary Heckathorne read the minutes from the Feb 14 Board meeting. Bob Hunter made a motion to approve the Minutes as read, Second by Charlene Jarboe. Motion passed.

Treasurer John Beals was absent, and Secretary Heckathorne presented his report. Mike Seaboch made a motion to accept John's report, Second by Charlene Jarboe. Motion passed. Willy suggested that we should use some of the Edward Jones money for scholarships, since the account has built up to $42,000. However, we can't touch the principal.

Bills of account: Windsor Manor billed for two meals: Feb 14 for $33.00 and Feb 28 for $55.00. No motion is needed for Windsor Manor meals.

For reports, Bob reported that the truck is half full. Charlene has a new slate of officers, but didn't have it with her and couldn't remember. In particular, Jerry wanted to know who she got for the new Vice Presidents.

We didn't do any of the contribution requests from last month. After Prom, baseball team sponsorship, SVOSH and Lions Youth Exchange Camp were all turned down. Note that we plan to serve sweet corn and bologna again this year for the Lions Youth Exchange Camp.

Nominating committee has the new slate of officers. We will read this list at the April 11 Board meeting and vote them in at the April 25 meeting.

Willy asked about the scholarships. We gave a scholarship to a student whose parents are very financially well-off. This led to a general discussion. The school picks the scholarship winner from a list of 3, where the list of 3 has no priority. The school probably doesn't know or care about their parent's wealth. Charlene was going to talk to the school about scholarship. In particular, could we have a priority on the 3 picks?

Bob and Charlene moved to adjourn and we adjourned at 9:04.

Lions business continued at our dinner meeting, March 28. We discussed a fund raiser for RAGBRAI -- to serve pancakes with the help of the Fire Depar`ment. The bikers will stay overnight in Ames, take off for Nevada on Wednesday morning and go thru Nevada on Lincoln Way. We want to use the Fire Station, since it's on the route. When this happened about 10 years ago, we served 3000 people at the fire station. We will propose going 50/50 with the Fire Department, as they also need to help out.

We read a slate of officers and plan to vote them into office April 11. Thei slate is as follows: President, Susan Radke; 1st Vice President, Paul Malsom; 2nd Vice President, Charlene Jarboe; 3rd Vice President, Bob Hunter (if he agrees); Membership, Terrence Beaston and Mike Miller; Secretary, Loren Heckathorne; Treasurer, John Beals; Lion Tamer, Carlene Hunter; Directors, Elijah Hansen and Jim Fenn; Tail Twisters, Steve Jordening and Sandy Richardson; Scholarships, Carlene Hunter and Charley Lloyd; Publicity, Willy Morfitt; Web Master, Jerry Radke; Social Media, Elijah Hansen, Jim Fenn and Jerry Radke; Immediate Past President, Jerry Radke.

Bob Hunter said the paper truck may go out next week. Willy reported that he picked up 250 eyeglasses and 6 hearing aids.
