September 2001 Board of Directors Meeting

Lion Line

The Nevada Lions Club held its regular Board Meeting in PDG Jan Whaley's new home on 10 September 2001. The meeting was called to order at 7:15 p.m. by President Angelo Stefani who acted as chairman, with the following members in attendance:

The minutes of the 6 August 2001 board meeting and the 22 August 2001 special board meeting were read by Secretary Jerry Radke. It was noted that the special board minutes should show that Donna Wilson and Marvin Lande Sr. were approved to receive $100 towards their eyeglasses. Lion Jean moved to approve the amended minutes, seconded by Lion Susan, and approved. The treasurer's balance was $7,368.24.

The secretary presented the following bills: (1) Lions Clubs International for supplies = $36.28, (2) Fareway Stores for Lincoln Highway Days groceries and supplies = $267.91, (3) Nevada ACE Hardware for LHD supplies = 49.59, (4) Story Farm & Home for LHD supples = 29.67, (5) Smitty's Foods for LHD supplies = $7.63, (6) Burkes Corp. for BBQ beef for LHD = $333.00, (7) Susan Radke for LHD posters = $19.08, and (8) Jan Whaley for LHD supplies from Sam's Club = $91.64. Lion Lynn moved to pay the bills, seconded by Lion Jean and approved.

Lion Jean reported that Lions worked 24 hours for $204 during ISU dorm move-in. We received pay for 45 hours. Lion Jean is checking on the discrepancy. Lion Jerry reported that Lions Jean Bodensteiner, Odin Christian, Lynn Harris, Paul Malsom, Angelo Stefani, and Don Williams worked six hours each at the 8 September football game. Lion Jim Perkins still needs four more Lions to work the 15 September ISU/Iowa game.

The Lincoln Highway Days food stand was discussed. We will either barely break even or be slightly in the red. Lion Duane moved that all three vice presidents work together on future food fund raisers. Seconded by Lion Odin, and passed.

Lion President Angelo noted that Paul Malsom was elected Third Vice President at the 22 August 2001 regular Lions meeting. Lion Susan reported that the club directory will be handed out at our 12 September regular meeting in Gates Hall. Lion Angelo reported that the Gates Hall Board will give service clubs meeting at least once a month in Gates Hall a 20 percent discount. Our rent per meeting will be $32. Lions Lynn and Duane will coordinate moving our podium and other equipment back to Gates Hall. There was no report from the Finance Committee. Letters were read from Lion Dayton Countryman and Youth and Shelter Services thanking the Nevada Lions Club for the $25 memorial to Ruth Countryman. Lion President Angelo reported that the donation to Libby Zaletel for her student trip is on hold until she goes.

For new business, Lion President Angelo read a letter from PDG Herman Kopitzke on behalf of the Iowa Lions Foundation. He requests (1) an invitation to speak at one of our meetings, (2) a $20 per member donation to ILF from our club, (3) Coming to Your Senses training for Nevada Lions, and (4) scheduling a glaucoma screening for Nevada in the near future. The Sight and Hearing Committee will work on Coming to Your Senses, Lion Secretary Jerry will contact PDG Dennis Lovick to schedule the Iowa Lions Glaucomobile, and Lion President Angelo will extend an invitation to PDG Herman Kopitzke.

Youth programs and the Peace Poster Contest were discussed. Peace Poster kits need to be ordered by 1 October 2001. Lion President Angelo will contact Lion Jim Perkins about this. Lion Margaret Maliet gave a $125 donation to our club. Lion Secretary Jerry has written her a "Thank You" letter. A report is needed from the Membership Committee before 1 October 2001. Lion President Angelo asked for volunteers to publish the club newsletter and to send press releases to the Nevada Journal. PDG Jan will be the newsletter publisher.

For other business, everyone expressed satisfaction with caterer Margaret Crane. District Governor Tim Wilson will make his official visit to our club on 14 November 2001. First Vice President Jim Perkins will preside at the 26 September and 10 October regular meetings and the 1 October board meeting while Lion President Angelo is overseas. Lion Jean will coordinate Sight Night. Our next regular meeting will be back in Gates Hall on 12 September. Lion Duane will have the program. Lion Lynn will host the next board meeting on 1 October 2001.

Lion Odin moved to adjourn, seconded by Lion Jean, and the meeting adjourned at 8:35 pm.
