The Nevada Lions Club held its regular Board Meeting in the Everett Carman home on 2 August 1999. The meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m. by President Loren Heckathorne who acted as chairman, with the following board members in attendance:

The minutes of the 12 July 1999 meeting were read and approved. The treasurer's balance of $2,146.81 was read and approved.
The secretary presented the following bills: (1) City of Nevada for rental of two lockers = $50.00. (2) Fareway Stores for Family Night ice cream sundaes = $30.17. (3) Angelo D. Stefani for Family Night prizes and decorations = $60.34. (4) Everett Carman for Lions Youth Exchange Camp groceries = $119.72. (5) Change for the upcoming Chicken Barbeque = $200.00. Lion Everett moved to pay the bills, seconded by Lion Bob Hobson. Motion approved.
Lion President Loren reported that we had no takers for the Barnstormers tickets. Lion Everett thanked the eleven Lions who helped serve dinner at the Lions Youth Exchange Camp. Lion Bob thanked the 24 Lions who donated 48 dozen cookies for the camp. Lion Jim reported that he attended some of the Youth Baseball games that the team we sponsored played in. Lion Jim showed materials for the Peace Poster Contest. He expects students from the school and/or Community Resource Center to participate. Lion President Loren has returned the completed forms to Per Mar Security for our ushering at ISU football games.
Lion Angelo has a sign-up sheet for our Lincoln Highway Days Chicken Barbeque. He has registered two floats for the parade. We paid $25 to have an ad in the Lincoln Highway Days flyers and will have ads in the local papers and possibly on the cable channel. Lion Dean moved that give the Community Bank 12 free tickets if they again sponsor our newspaper ads. Lion Lynn provided the second and the motion was approved. Prices will be $5 for a chicken dinner and $3.50 for the chicken only.
District Governor Herman Kopitzke will be visiting our club on 25 August. Lion Jerry has sent letters to the two scholarship winners, Carolyn Halverson and Amy Lekwa, inviting them and their parents to our 11 August meeting to receive the first halves of their scholarships. Lion Jerry reported that the Clubmate software we ordered has not arrived yet.
For new business Susan moved that we increase the cost of our club directories from 25 cents to 50 cents. Approved following a second by Lion Bob. A request from Heartland Senior Services was tabled. Our club was asked if we wanted to work as parking lot attendants during the week ISU students move in. It was decided that we didn't have enough time to establish crews this year. Lion Jerry will call and tell them to contact us earlier next year. Gourmet Coffee sales for the South Dakota Industries for the Blind was tabled. Lion Susan will brew some of the sample coffee at our next meeting.
Lion Susan reported from the District Meeting that PDG Betty Babberl needs some help with the Lions Booth at the Iowa State Fair on 18 August. Lion Dean moved that we use some of the profits from the Chicken Barbeque to increase the amounts of the two scholarships we give. Joel provided the second and the motion was approved.
Our next board meeting will be 7 pm, 30 August 1999 at the Jim Perkins home. Lion Jan moved we adjourn, seconded by Lion Susan, and we adjourned at 8:40 pm.
