October 2000 Board of Directors Meeting

Lion Line

The Nevada Lions Club held its regular Board Meeting in the Lynn Harris home on 2 October 2000. The meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m. by President Joel Halverson who acted as chairman, with the following board members in attendance:

Odin Christian Lynn Harris Loren Heckathorne
Bob Hobson Dean Howell Charles Lloyd
Paul Malsom LaNair Niblock Jerry Radke
Dick Smith Duane Stansbury Angelo Stefani
John Wheelock

The minutes of the 11 September 2000 board meeting were read and approved. The treasurer's balance was $5065.20.

The secretary had no bills to present. He noted that we had paid Lions Clubs International $53.34 for club supplies and The Brass Rail $206.70 twice for meals since our last board meeting.

For old business Lion Angelo again thanked the Lions for making the Chicken BBQ a success. Lion Jerry reported that we should net between $1000 and $1100 once all of the bills are in. The Per Mar ushering is going well. The next game is ISU/Nebraska on 7 October. Jerry passed around the Warren Coleman Award plaque honoring deceased Lion C. Everett Carman. It will be presented to his widow at a future date. The Peace Poster kit has arrived. Lion Jim Perkins will work together with the Nevada Community Resource Center on this project. Lion Jim also will reserve Christy Hall for our meetings after November. Lion Charles will see if Christy Hall has room to store our podium and other paraphernalia during the Gates Hall renovation.

For new business we discussed the meetings we will forgo in November and December. Lion Charles moved to transfer the meal money earmarked for the 22 November meeting to the Project Fund and to use the meal money from the 27 December meeting for Christmas baskets. Lion Nib seconded the motion which passed after some discussion.

Joe Melcher of the Kiwanis has been working to get organization signs back in Nevada. The former Crows property is a possibility. A joint civic sign for the Lions, Kiwanis, Rotary, etc. would be nice.

We need to move our Pancake Day next year because of the District 9x7 Lions Convention. Lion Dean moved and Lion Dick seconded that we hold our Pancake Day on 23 February 2001. The motion passed. We next discussed places were we could hold the event. Lion Charles moved that we investigate Memorial Lutheran Church as our first choice and Christy Hall as our second choice. Seconded by Lion Duane and passed. Lion Brett Anderson is in charge of Pancake Day.

The Travelling Lion presented to Lion President Joel at the 13 September meeting by Lion Rob Bacon of the Maxwell Lions Club is missing. Lion Jerry will call Gates to see if they have found it. Lion Jerry and two other Lions will take it to the Colo Lions Club on 10 October if it can be found.

Our next board meeting will be in Jerry Radke's home on 6 November 2000. Lion Joel will host the December meeting. Lion Odin moved to adjourn, seconded by Lion Charles, and we adjourned at 8:00 pm.

Secretary Jerry K. Radke
