The Nevada Lions Club held its regular Board Meeting in the Dick Smith home on 11 September 2000. The meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m. by President Joel Halverson who acted as chairman, with the following board members in attendance:

The minutes of the 7 August 2000 board meeting were read and approved. The treasurer's balance was $7193.41.
The secretary presented the following bills: (1) Jim Fenn for BBQ grill canopy parts = $19.33, (2) Fareway Stores, Inc. for BBQ Groceries and Supplies = $84.66, (3) Smitty's Super Valu for BBQ Groceries = $492.13, and (4) Sandy Jacobson for 375 Chickens for the BBQ = $1,237.50. Lion Lynn moved to pay the bills. Seconded by Lion Odin and approved.
Lion Jerry reported that we served 650 (385 inside and 265 carry-out) during our annual Chicken BBQ on Lincoln Highway Days. Inside receipts were $1984.00 and outside receipts were $1328.50. So far, $160 has been collected from the pre-sales of tickets and $57 for leftovers for a total of $3529. Expenses are expected to be $2568.62 unless there are additional bills. At present there is a net profit of $960.88 with some additional receipts expected which should result in over $1000 net. Receipts included donations from Margaret Maliet, Jean Henderson, and Dale Svensen. The secretary was instructed to write "Thank Yous" to Mark Krausman for donating ice, Community Bank for sponsoring our ad, McDonald's for donating the orange drink, and Jim Fenn, Margaret Maliet, Jean Henderson, and Dale Svensen for their contributions.
Secretary Jerry reported that we received a check in the amount of $480 for the ISU parking lot duty. Ushering for the first two ISU football games has gone well with seven or eight Lions working each game. Lions Jerry, Jim Perkins, and Jan Whaley attending the "Coming to Your Senses" training held at the Nevada Indian Creek Country Club on 9 September. Additional training sessions will be held and more information will be provided to our club. Tom Rittgers will no longer be able to provide a hog for our Pancake Day sausage. We may be able to get sausage donated by Burke's or find another donor for a hog.
New Business: the secretary was instructed to order one "Peace Poster" kit. Lion Dean moved to donate $467 to Iowa Lions Foundation to qualify for the Warren Coleman Award in the name of Lion Everett Carman. Lion Niblock provided the second and the motion passed unanimously. Lion Joel suggested that we make the "Lion of the Year" and "Volunteer of the Year" awards yearly events. Lion Dean moved that the Nominating Committee select two Lions to serve with the president on an Awards Committee. Lion Jean seconded and the motion was approved.
There was a discussion on where and when to have our Annual Pancake Day. The District Convention is March 16 and 17 and District Governor Jan Whaley has requested that we hold Pancake Day at another time. Lion Jean moved to move Pancake Day. Lion Dick seconded the motion which was then approved. A date and place will be selected later.
Lion Jim Perkins reported that Christy Hall is available for our second and fourth Wednesday meetings after November for a charge of $25. The room is large enough and is heated. Lion Jean moved that we recommend to the entire club that we use Christy Hall for our meetings while Gates Hall is being renovated. Seconded by Lion Dean and passed.
Our next board meeting will be in Lynn Harris' home on 2 October 2000 Lion Loren moved to adjourn, seconded by Lion Odin, and we adjourned at 8:20 pm.
